Empowered Hard to Place youth in Foster care and piloted programs through group and individual counseling. Provided expressive therapies incorporating art, photography, movement, and recreation to explore trauma and difficult material otherwise unable to express.

 

Bronx Children’s Hospital, Psychiatric Ward, 2005 – 2006

Led group sessions for adolescent patients, facilitated individual sessions, provided expressive therapies, tracked progress of patients in sessions, collaborated with a treatment team of professionals to maximize patients’ progress, elected by staff to work with sensitive areas of traumatized youth in State Hospital setting. Researched lowered anxiety through mandala making with these youth.

Research and Community Outreach

 

Conducted interviews with traumatized adolescent population at Bronx State Psychiatric Hospital. Compiled data for a research project initiating results based on art therapy groups vs. craft making.

 

Masters Thesis Project, 2005 – 2006: researched the effects of mandala making as related to anxiety rates with adolescents in treatment.

 

Facilitated art therapy groups resulting in more participation (50%) by offering movement- based therapy at Brooklyn Residential Treatment facility for SCO Family of Services GLBQT Program, 2005 – 2007 

 

Participated (for practicum) at St. Mary’s Hospital in Queens, N.Y. 2004

Impacted how youth share trauma with expressive modalities by offering art therapy to children, ages 3-17, who suffered a variety of emotional and physical complications; facilitated both individual and group sessions to increase ability to express emotions through non-verbal means.

 

Contributed to fieldwork at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Harrison, N.Y.  2003 while

Facilitating group sessions for adult population in Substance Abuse Treatment Facility

 

SCAT Member through SMSU, 1996 – 1997: elected by academic committee to design and implement projects to improve social services and local awareness which led to

launching a program for teenage mothers to improve self esteem;
