Oscar C Perez PhD

I have over 10 years of experience life coaching and mentoring people of all ages.  I have successfully been a transformation coach for teenagers, adults, and retirees.  I coach people on how to become aligned with their highest purpose, and how to eliminate the obstacles that keep them from accomplishing their dreams.  I have helped individuals create businesses based on their passions; heal wounded relationships with self, friends and family; and develop proven skills for success in academic and professional careers.  

This is how it started...

When I was in my early 20's I ruined my life.  After two years of a downward spiral of depression and self-destructive patterns I found myself without a job, without an apartment, without much of a future to speak of.  One night while driving to a friend's house I lost control of my car.  In an accident that could have taken my life I realized how precious my life is.  I also woke up to the fact that the life I was living was the product of the decisions that I had made up until that point.  It was built on patterns of thinking that no longer served me, and limited all of the possibilities in my life. 

I dedicated the following 12 years to learning all about how to shed the beliefs, behaviors, and perspectives that were limiting my growth and success.  I studied the masters of life transformation.  From Eastern spiritual practices to Jungian psychology and Neurolinguistic Programming, to shamanic practices from around the world, I studied different wisdom traditions: how they help people heal their self-doubts and overcome personal fears. 

I went from being a college dropout to being selected to represent the state of New Mexico for academic excellence.  Within two years of the accident I had repeatedly been on the Dean's list for my university.  In the years that followed I learned two new languages, I lived abroad in Europe and Brazil, I traveled around the world.  In 2011 I completed a PhD at Brown University.  The focus of my research was how stories shape our identities.  More specifically, I studied how we can shape our lives through taking control of the stories that shape who we are.  I went on to teach at Harvard University where I won two awards for Excellence in Teaching.  In the Spring of 2012 I left my teaching position at Harvard to focus on helping others transform their lives.  I moved to Santa Cruz, California and created Inlak'ech Life Coaching.
